Movement

is

Medicine

Movement is ubiquitous.

Everything in the universe is in motion, from atoms to galaxies.

Movement is Life.
It drives life towards energy sources. Movement shaped humans; body, mind and Soul.

Movement is Health.
There is solid evidence on the several aspects of health decay linked to inadequate levels of Movement, from metabolic regulation to musculoskeletal pain.

Movement is Medicine.
If we could compress all the benefits of Physical Activity into a pill, it would be the greatest medicine ever (and the most expensive). Movement is free.

Movement is freedom.
It is the key difference between Lifespan and Healthspan. Living a long life is great, but it is the quality of those late years that really matters.

BODY ASSESSMENT

Every journey starts with a first step, and for us this means a thorough Body Assessment. This first evaluation will set the baseline for an individualised Movement program whether your path is through rehab or training.
A careful consideration of each case takes time and we will discuss general aspects of your health and wellbeing that may be relevant. We will also access a range of physical abilities and capabilities like mobility, balance, strength; and biomechanical aspects such as gait and posture. We give special attention to fundamental movement patterns which can reveal weaknesses and asymmetries.

After data collection, we can move to program design, which is like drawing a map. The Body Assessment gives us point A, where you are now; point B is your goal(s). The Movement program is our journey from A to B.

TRAINING

We believe the human body is the most fascinating and complex system in the universe. It obeys biomechanical and physiological rules which have great influence in how it can best be trained for performance and general health.

Training For Performance
If performance is important for you then it is important to us. If you train for a specific sport as an amateur or simply as a hobby, then you train for performance. It does not matter your level of competition, there is always a way we can design a training program which will help you. Not only in enhancing performance but also to reduce the risk of common injuries that eventually come from each sport.

But we want you to train smarter, not harder. Often, they don’t mean the same. Our approach to peak performance aims for a complete development in movement patterns and movement efficiency. It is not focused only in overloading the body to the extreme. Loading is important, but constant overload without proper recovery is a recipe for injuries. We take the smart approach, raising your fitness levels in a sustainable way.but overloading it constantly without proper recovery is a recipe for injuries. Training For Life
The exercise doses needed for high performance are extreme and not always represent best health interests. But if you don’t want to perform like an athlete, you don’t have to train like one.

In some cases, too much exercise can be as detrimental as too little. We take that into consideration in our programs. Your individual needs are balanced to meet the right dose for you on that present moment. As you improve, the intensity will keep being revised to match your current level of physical capacity. This way you can consistently adapt to the challenges of training.

LOW BACK REHABILITATION

Low back pain is one of the most common disorders experienced across the world in all age groups (1). It has great costs to individuals and to society as a whole, as it has become the number one worldwide cause of disability (2).

Rather than a disease in itself, LBP is essentially a symptom. The vast majority of cases are classified under the “non-specific low back pain” when a clear underlying cause cannot be identified, such as fractures or infection (3). The reason for a general term might be that LBP is usually caused by multifaceted routine behaviours resulting in accumulation of microtraumas.

Our approach to rehabilitation is also multifaceted. Every case is unique and our Body Assessment will give specifics on each individual. The general framework in our rationale is:

  • 1) Hoy, D., et al. (2012). A systematic review of the global prevalence of low back pain. Arthritis & Rheumatism, 64(6), 2028-2037.
  • 2) Vos, T., et al. (2016). Global, regional, and national incidence, prevalence, and years lived with disability for 310 diseases and injuries, 1990–2015: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2015. The lancet, 388(10053), 1545-1602.
  • 3) Maher, C., Underwood, M., & Buchbinder, R. (2017). Non-specific low back pain. The Lancet, 389(10070), 736-747.

SPORTS REHABILITATION

We believe that exercise is medicine.

We believe the human body is the most fascinating complex system in the known universe. We are passionate about human movement. Most movements start with a thought, the connection between brain and muscles

Train smart, not harder. If performance is important for you then it is important to us. Our approach to peak performance aims for a complete development in movement patterns and movement efficient. It is not focused only in overloading the body as a solution to everything. Loading is important, no doubt, but overloading it constantly without proper recovery is a recipe for injuries. We take the smart approach, raising your fitness levels in a sustainable way.

EDUCATION

I have greatly benefited from numerous courses, lectures, workshops, and practices.

Moreover, in a 20 years career spam I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside top professionals from whom I’ve learnt a great deal of techniques and points of view. For that I’m truly grateful. I have also learnt a lot from my own mistakes. We all should keep our minds open to new ideas and never stop learning. That is the growth mindset. I feel like I have the duty to give back to our community by sharing my experience and the things I was able to put together along the way. In the past 5 years I have been invited to speak in conferences about a variety of themes related to training and wellness, mostly related to lumbar spine – Gustavo and Giovane
